Are we in the golden age of superhero porn? It sure seems like that. The Avengers continues to break box office records, and meanwhile a ton of superhero porn spoofs come out every month. There will probably be a dozen Justice League porn films before a real Justice League movie ever comes out. More »

The character Swamp Thing has gone through many strange metamorphoses over the years. And in author Scott Snyder's current (and enjoyably creepy) story line, Dr. Alec Holland has only reluctantly taken on the mantle of the mossy champion to do battle with a malevolent primordial force known as The Rot. I have no idea who's responsible for this masterpiece, but Redditor DeSaad snapped this incredible artwork of Sean Bean multitasking ferociously. Hopefully the plot has been changed accordingly to reflect this new box art. I eagerly await meeting such fan favorite characters Hogor the Grim and Lokifinger. Also in this reality, Viserys Targaryen's homemade Iron Man helmet just somehow worked out! More »

When things get tough, lawmakers get creative. Faced with predictions that sea levels in the coastal areas of North Carolina will rise by a meter in the next century, legislators are considering bold action: making those predictions illegal. A bill being circulated in the Tarheel state would force scientists to estimate future sea levels on a linear path based on trends since 1900 — in other words, based on the simple assumption that trends always move in a straight line, no matter what. While we're still not completely certain what happens to Pixar's new princess Merida in their latest animated feature, Brave, we do know that her strained relationship with her mother is the meat of the drama. Which is demonstrated in this clip quite well. Take a look at what's really happening inside the giant Scottish castle. More »

When explorers started going around the Earth, they used the stars to find their way around. While the oceans and plains stretched out indefinitely, the stars were dependable guides. But when we travel into deep space, what will we use to find our way? More »

The last important casting decision in the Hunger Games franchise rests with Finnick Odair, the flirty red head who kills with a trident and wears nothing but a fisherman's net when he's representing District 4 in the parade for the 3rd Quarter Quell Hunger Games. He's bold, charming, and super-sexy. So who does Hollywood want to play him? The same people they want to play everything, apparently. More »

For those of you who grew up with such classics as Green Eggs and Ham and Horton Hears A Who, these World War II editorial cartoons by Theodor Geisel may take you by surprise. This wasn't a dalliance for Seuss either — the illustrator was a prolific newspaper contributor during the early 1940s. More »

Last year, a videographer from Neptune Canada spotted this odd creature floating deep under the northeastern Pacific Ocean off of Vancouver Island. Was Batman having a brave and bold adventure with The Atom in his new micro-Bat-bathyscape? Not exactly. This bobbing Bat-signal is a cilia-covered predatory cnidarian and a relative of sea jellies: More »

It's not even 10:30 in the morning, and I'm already holding an archaic deadly weapon in my hands. I'm in a nondescript warehouse in Seattle, to which I've traveled so that award-winning science fiction novelists can demonstrate how they could cut me in half if they felt like it. Somebody has just pulled a sword out of its scabbard and is passing it around. I'm holding its hilt in both hands, just to make absolutely sure it doesn't slice off something it's not supposed to. It's lighter than I always figured a sword would be. More »

Babylon 5 was a ground-breaking TV show in many ways — but a couple of episodes, in particular, stand out as especially influential on television as a whole. When we were preparing yesterday's roundup of the 10 TV episodes that changed television, we wanted to include an episode of Babylon 5, so we consulted Babylon 5 expert (and io9 contributor) Jason Shankel. Many people prefer the newer Doctor Who series, masterminded by Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat, to the "classic" version from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Is that just a matter of taste and production values, or is the newer version more literary and thus more deserving of love? More »

Have we seen the last of Worf? Not if Michael Dorn gets his way. The Star Trek: The Next Generation star wants to make a brand new low-budget movie, either direct to DVD or for cable TV. He's writing it himself — he's already started — and he thinks it could go alongside the big budget J.J. Abrams movies without cannibalizing the audience. More »
