GNOME's text readability on the desktop is very poor, to put it nicely. Unless you use dark, low contrast wallpapers like I was forced to for the past few years. This is Bug 317764. As much as I am an obvious GNOME lover, KDE, Mac OS and even Windows XP do better in this regard. I mean, can you really read these icons' labels easily"
