TiVo has officially confirmed that Amazon Unbox will get HD content in the near future, but execs at the company say a few kinks need to be ironed out first. The current version of Unbox can't process HD content, and availability is limited by bandwidth constraints—something cable companies are in the process of solving. If a previous customer survey is to be trusted, an HD movie rental will cost $4.99, the same as iTunes. [Zatz Not Funny! - Thanks Dave]

How "hi-def" do we think this will be? 720p? 1080i? Will the sound be 5.1?
lol here comes my hd porn!
@aznplayer213: Silly rabbit you can get that for free!
@scarbrtj: It will probably be 1080p. Amazon's current videos are "near dvd" quality. 720x408 for widescreen, and 640x480 for non-widescreen. as opposed to dvd resolution being 720x480 for either format.
iTunes HD movies are 1080p arent they?
The article specifically mentions tivoHD, but i hope this means HD rentals via PC also. (i got my pc connected to my hdtv via hdmi)
@CyRu5: iTunes HD movies are 720p. 1080p would be a bitch to download.
About friggin time! I don't know why Apple doesn't allow you to rent HD content through PCs (well of course they want you to buy an Apple TV, but still).
1080p is pretty much impossible. 1080p is more than double the number of pixels of 720p...so bandwidth requirements are not currently good enough for mass transfer of 1080p content over the internet.
Too expensive! I'll take my Blu-ray rentals from Netflix, thanks. 10 Amazon Unbox rentals would cost as much as the 25-30 discs I rent a month from Netflix. And even if that price hike on Blu-ray Disc rentals does happen, the price will still be better than Unbox.
